...and We're Back!

After a too-long hiatus, LUPEC Iowa City is back. While we haven't been meeting formally, the lovely ladies have been enjoying each others company. We've enjoyed sangria, sipped some Mai Tais, bid adieu to dear friends, and welcomed new ones!

On Sunday afternoon members gathered at Rusti Nail's for an afternoon of Old Fashioneds, Mini Pigs in Blankets, and of course, Cheez-its. There were rye, whiskey, and bourbon Old Fashioneds. There were old fashioned Old Fashioneds and newfangled Old Fashioneds.

Taking care of business were Blinker, Rusti, Diabola Mexicola, Manhattan, Whiskey Daisy, Pink Lady, Ninitchka, & Ginger Fizz. The ladies reviewed the by-laws, discussed membership & future meetings, and even worked in logos and shirts!

Ninitchka will be hosting the November meeting. Stay tuned for November news.

Hooray for Dutch Courage!

February LUPEC - IC meeting was hosted by Jinx, who cleverly chose Gin & Fixins' as the theme. Jinx gave a nod to the era of Prohibition and bathtub gin. The list of gin cocktails sampled was as long as the drinks were delicious - Pegu Club Cocktail, Jinx, Marconi Wireless, Singapore Sling, Pink Gin, Cherry Cocktail, Gin Rickey, Dirty Gin Martini, & Luigi. The cocktails were just what we needed to take the chill out of the cold February night!

Our lovely hostess also prepared some canapes and she shares the recipes for the Pegu Club Cocktail and the canapes below. We also learned all about Dutch Courage. (You may recognize it by the more popular name of gin.)

Following the business meeting, the ladies constructed charming pillbox hats. Thanks to Marconi Wireless & Jinx for making the forms and thanks to everyone who brought materials, supplies, notions and great ideas.

Stay tuned for more photos and news about the March meeting, our first-ever field trip!

LUPEC-Iowa City is here!

Welcome to LUPEC-Iowa City. LUPEC stands for Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails. We are a group of subversive ladies dedicated to overthrowing the patriarchy one delicious drink at a time. We aim to achieve the following goals:

℘ To create a secular "coven-like" atmosphere in which Classy Broads of today can invoke and honor the spirits of their Forebroads

℘ To continue the 150 year American tradition of dangerous women calling themselves Ladies and getting together in groups, clubs, and societies to work undercover while they chipped away at the patriarchy

℘ To protect the collective Joie de Vivre of LUPEC members by assuring them at least one good party a month

℘ To encourage the accumulation and use of vintage serving and barware

LUPEC-Iowa City is part of a nation-wide community of like minded, sassy women. We will do our best informed of our escapades!
